Reviews for Manshige Shoan - Kyoto Porta
Review highlights
Based on 462 reviewsManshige Shoan - Kyoto Porta is praised for its authentic Kyoto-style Japanese cuisine, particularly its tofu dishes, tempura, sashimi, and kaiseki sets. Diners appreciate the traditional flavors combined with well-presented multi-course meals, often described as a valuable culinary experience at reasonable prices. The restaurant is noted for its welcoming and attentive service, with staff accommodating families despite the lack of a formal kids’ menu. While some find the pricing slightly on the higher side for bento-style offerings, many highlight the pleasant dining environment and availability of English menus, making it accessible to both locals and tourists seeking genuine Kyoto fare. Short waits during busy times indicate its steady popularity.
We returned to this restaurant for the 2nd time in a week. We decided this will be our last meal in kyoto before we return to singapore. It is a under rated restaurant. The kyoto toufu was special and authentic. We ordered one main set and 3 separate dishes of kyoto toufu, tempura and sashimi... with a highball.. total damage is around 7k yen dish. Service staff was nice and friendly.
If you want to discover very japaneses meals, go there. Very scary and weird sometimes but it was a good discovery. The staff is very kind and caring. I paid 3380¥.
So far, this was the best meal of our trip in Kyoto. Premium bento 7 course meal for a bargain deal. This meal was shared for 2 and we just added single orders like savory egg custard, tempura and sashimi to top up the meal. There was quite a line but took only 20 mins wait on a busy Sunday evening to grab a table. Loved their Chawan mushi (savory egg custard), mixed sashimi, their take on tempura with flavored salt (Kyoto style), and all the alcohol (draft beer, different sake and high ball whiskey). Will definitely recommend this place if you want to give yourself a kaiseki traditional Kyoto experience that will be embedded in your core memories of the city.
English menu and really interesting sets. I had a lot of sushi, ramen, katsu, and udon already so went here for some Kyoto specific foods. I’m not an expert but the reviews marked this as good for local fare. I was introduced to so many new dishes! No kids menu but they brought my 4 and 7 year old children’s dishes and cutlery so I was able to share the items that I thought my kids would enjoy from my set. Definitely got big and get the big set. You get a little of everything.
2025 August 3.5 Bento box style. Almost like keisei style. Aoi set 1500 Haha set 2300 Fushimi set 1650 See pictures. Everything wasn't bad actually. Good flavors for what it is. Though for what it is, it's a tad bit more expensive. However if you're looking for a nice place to sit and relax, this place has space. English menu available.
traditional japanese set meals for breakfast lunch or dinner It cones with cold appetiser, main, desserts JPY2500 i har the Autumn seasonal Tofu (bean curd) set there is cold savoury soya bean soup with its paste still inside the main was tofu (hard bean curd) with egg & mushroom on rice
Coming from a huge delay in the shikansen service, I was pretty hungry and saw that there wasn't a queue at this restaurant. The displays of the food sets were also pretty attractive. I got the Hana set meal (¥2500), and also upgraded the soup for ¥200 to one where the soup is boiled in an earthenware teapot. This was a Kyoto style bento with some simmered foods. While I wasn't particularly sure of what I was eating, the foods came in different textures and a variety of tastes, so my tastebuds were always piqued. The dessert item was dengaku which had a mochi like texture with a sweet and salty miso paste on it. Overall a decent meal, but my only complaint was that the meal was almost vegetarian, with only small pieces of fish or the tempura prawn serving as protein.
